Community Camera Program

Do you currently utilize private video surveillance at your home or business? If you do, we need your HELP!

Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects caught in the act of committing a crime. Installing video surveillance is a great way to protect your property. The Village of East Canton Police Camera Registry Program is another community-police partnership and is something we need and value as your police agency serving our community.

How does it work?

The Village of East Canton Police Department is committed to our partnership with residents and business owners in our community. Many residents and business owners currently operate surveillance systems at their homes and businesses. As crimes occur nearby, residents and business owners are not always aware that their system may have captured information that could help solve the crime, thus keeping our community safer. In turn, the police are also not always aware of who may have surveillance video with potentially vital information to solve a crime.

The Village of East Canton Police Department is asking residents and businesses across the village to register their privately owned video surveillance systems. As we respond to criminal incidents, we may be able to use the information or surveillance footage gathered from the security cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of the criminals involved.

What are the Benefits of registering your Camera?

Please help us to make the Village of East Canton an undesirable place for criminals to commit crimes and help keep your entire community safe! By registering your Camera with the Police Department, we can quickly identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity. After registering your Camera, you would only be contacted by the Village of East Canton Police Department if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera. Police personnel, if necessary, may request to view your camera footage to assist in the investigation.

If you would like to tell us that you have video surveillance and allow officers to contact you should a crime occur near where your cameras are installed, we kindly ask that you let us know by filling out our registration form.

Information provided to the Village of East Canton Police Department regarding your camera systems will be for official use only. Your data will remain confidential and not be distributed except as required by law or court order. The registry is entirely voluntary and could be declined at any time, and under no circumstances would the Police Department have the ability to tap into your surveillance systems. This program only informs the Police Department of residents and businesses willing to help and with video surveillance systems that have recorded something helpful in solving a crime. This program can save valuable time and effort as the Police Department investigates a crime.
