As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence this Fourth of July, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all the residents of the Village of East Canton. This historic milestone gives us an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy, honor those who have served our country, and celebrate the strong sense of community that makes our village such a special place to call home.

As you gather with family and friends for holiday festivities, please remember to practice firework safety. Always follow local laws and manufacturer instructions, keep a safe distance from fireworks, and never allow children to handle them without proper supervision. A few simple precautions can help ensure everyone enjoys a safe and memorable holiday.

This Independence Day is also a wonderful time to look out for one another. I encourage everyone to check on neighbors, especially our senior citizens, veterans, and those who may be facing difficult circumstances. A simple act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone's day and reflects the caring spirit of East Canton.

With the current heat wave affecting our area, please take steps to stay safe and hydrated. Be sure your pets have access to plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to rest. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short period of time. Likewise, check on elderly neighbors and family members to ensure they are staying cool during these extreme temperatures.
